What Can You See on a Private Walking Tour of Meiji Shrine, Shibuya, and Harajuku in Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were visitors from North America. Since I had received the request through a local agency and had never been in direct contact with the guests beforehand, I confirmed the details in the hotel lobby before starting the tour.

I guided them around Meiji Shrine, Yoyogi Park, the Shibuya Scramble Crossing, and Harajuku. We walked from Meiji Shrine through Yoyogi Park to Shibuya. At Shibuya Station, I helped them purchase a Welcome Suica card.

The guests had researched Japan very well, and reminded one another not to talk on the train. They said they did not want to do anything that would be considered bad manners, so they asked many questions and wanted to learn various things. Some of the guests wanted to know more about history, and everyone in the group was very kind, which made guiding a real pleasure.

While walking around Shibuya, some of the guests did a lot of shopping here and there, and said they would like to come back after the tour.

From Shibuya, we took the train again using Suica back to Harajuku, where we had ramen and I introduced several shopping spots before parting ways. The guests said they would be fine finding places on their own using Google Maps from there.

The trip was said to be a birthday celebration. I hope they have a wonderful journey.

I’m Yoko Kusumoto, a government lisenced English-speaking guide.
I have been living in Tokyo for more than 20 years, and it’s my pleasure to show you around Tokyo. I recommend Meiji Shrine and Asakusa if you are first time in Japan. I also recommend off-the-beaton path spots like Fukagawa Fudodo and Gotokuji Temple(lucky cat temple).
I was born and brought up in Kamakura, where the first shogun’s government was established. It will be my pleasure to introduce you my hometown as well.

I live with my husband and one teenage son.
I like traveling, flowers, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, and exploring Tokyo.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon.
