What Is a Private Himeji Castle Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
Today's guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from North America. After meeting at Himeji Station, we visited the Castle View spot, Himeji Castle, Koko-en Garden, and the rooftop of Egret Himeji, ending the tour back at Himeji Station.
This day was a Saturday with the cherry blossoms in full bloom and pleasant weather, so Himeji Castle was very crowded with many visitors, and there was quite a wait to purchase entrance tickets. The interior of the main keep was also crowded, and it took a considerable amount of time to complete the visit. Koko-en Garden was busy with visitors as well, but the cherry blossoms were beautiful and various other flowers were beginning to bloom, which was lovely. The tour ran a little longer than planned, but the guests enjoyed the experience.

Our delightful guide, Norio, was knowledgeable and a master at train negotiation! A highlight of the tour was the Herb Garden and Ropeway visit. The Sake Brewery and Museum was interesting with fabulous explanation from Norio combined with outstanding exhibits and tastings! He then left us to wander at our leisure in Chinatown.

We learnt lots about Himeji castle and it was very interesting. The gardens were beautiful and it was great to see all the Koi fish. Norio made sure to take us to the best places and even took us to a great local sake place we asked for 🙂
