What Is an Early-Morning Private Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were a group visiting from Europe. Before coming to Japan they had stayed elsewhere in Asia for a while, and this was their first time in both Japan and Kyoto. I took them to Fushimi Inari, Kiyomizu-dera, Nijo Castle, and Kinkaku-ji. It was an early-morning tour starting at 7:00, but by the time we visited Nijo Castle and Kinkaku-ji it was close to noon, and with the cherry blossoms about 70% in bloom and right at their best viewing season, the sites were quite crowded. Since the guests had a tea ceremony experience booked at 13:30, they agreed to switch part of the transportation to taxi. This allowed us to bring them to the tea ceremony venue with time to spare. Some of the guests especially enjoyed the vermilion Senbon Torii of Fushimi Inari, while others were impressed by the magnificent architecture of Nijo Castle.
