Over the course of the day the route took in Hotel Metropolitan Edmont at 9:30, Chidorigafuchi at 9:45, Asakusa at 10:50, Ueno Kiyomizu Kannon-do at 13:00, Tokyo National Museum at 13:30 and Ueno Toshogu Shrine at 14:40.
Travel between the sites was by public transport: Iidabashi to Kudanshita by subway (180JPY); Kudanshita to Asakusa by subway (210JPY); Asakusa to Ueno by subway (180JPY); Ueno to Iidabashi by train (170JPY). Across 4 sections the fare came to 740JPY per person.
What Is a Rainy-Day Private Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Cherry Blossoms, Asakusa, and the National Museum
I guided the guests visiting from Oceania. It rained from the morning and continued all day, making it a very cold day. Since they were staying in Japan for a long period, we first purchased an unregistered PASMO card at the first station. The cherry blossoms at Chidorigafuchi were in full bloom and the guests were delighted, though personally, perhaps because of the weather, I did not feel they were as striking as usual. Despite the rain, Asakusa was extremely crowded. For lunch, the guests requested Japanese food other than ramen, so we looked at several restaurants and entered a recommended place called Chikuan, where they enjoyed sasami tendon and were satisfied. As the cold rain kept falling, I suggested either going to Rikugien Garden as planned or switching to the Tokyo National Museum, and since they preferred to visit gardens on a fine day, we decided to go to the museum. As they seemed unfamiliar with the trains, I saw them back to their hotel to end the tour. They were kind, and although the weather was not on our side, they told me it had been a good tour.

Great day in Toyko
Four of us spent an enjoyable day touring Tokyo the day before our Japan cruise. Our guide, Takako, was great and ensured we saw what we wanted to see. Tokyo traffic is crazy but our driver, Mr. Isizuka, was amazing. Takako asked for our lunch preference and suggested a terrific steak house…so fun! She explained all the traditions and rituals at the shrine and temple so we felt at ease visiting these places. Because of traffic, we were running a little behind (no fault of hers or our driver) so we only got a drive through of the Ginza area. We will spend one more day in Tokyo at the end of the cruise and now have a better idea of where to concentrate our time. All in all, we had a great time, despite the rain.

Takako, our guide for the day, was an absolutely wonderful companion in Tokyo. She took the time in advance to understand our interests and wishes, and the whole day was tailored exactly to what we wanted to see and experience.
My mother isn’t very steady on her feet and can’t walk long distances, and Takako handled this beautifully, she adjusted the pace and made sure my mother could fully enjoy the day without feeling rushed or left out. It’s reassuring to know that a tour like this can be adapted so well for someone with limited mobility.
Her knowledge, warmth and preparation made the day truly special. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide and can highly recommend her to anyone visiting Tokyo.
