- 9:00 Meet @ Hotel
- 9:45-10:45 Monkey Park Iwatayama
- 11:00-12:00 Tenryu-ji Temple & Bamboo Grove Path sightseeing
- 12:30-13:10 Lunch @ Gontaro Kinkaku-ji Branch
- 13:20-14:20 Kinkaku-ji Temple sightseeing (soft serve ice cream)
- 15:00 Drop off at Gion Hanamikoji
- 15:15 After strolling Hanamikoji, disband
Tour Itinerary in Detail
Meeting at @ Hotel at 9:00, the group explored Kyoto until the tour ended at 15:00. The day ran to 6 hours from start to finish. It included lunch @ Gontaro Kinkaku-ji Branch at 12:30.
The itinerary covered Monkey Park Iwatayama at 9:45, Tenryu-ji Temple & Bamboo Grove Path sightseeing at 11:00, Kinkaku-ji Temple sightseeing (soft serve ice cream) at 13:20 and After strolling Hanamikoji, disband at 15:15.
What Does a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour of Arashiyama, Kinkaku-ji, and Gion Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The group of guests from North America visited Arashiyama, Kinkaku-ji, and the Gion area on a private one-day tour of Kyoto. In Arashiyama, they strolled through Tenryu-ji Temple and the Bamboo Grove path, thoroughly enjoying the beautiful scenery, though the uphill climb to the Monkey Park was a bit challenging for one of the guests. Even so, they walked all the way to the end, and the whole group felt a great sense of accomplishment. For lunch, they enjoyed udon, soba, and a tempura set at a restaurant near Kinkaku-ji, and one of the guests especially liked drinking the sobayu (the water used to boil soba). Because of the time this took, we decided to skip the planned visit to Nijo Castle and instead added the Gion area. In Gion, they walked along Hanamikoji Street and seemed to enjoy the traditional atmosphere of Kyoto.

Andy(Atsushi) was great and communicated with us beforehand about our itinerary. He was flexible with changes we requested. Andy was very informative during the tour. He also was willing to take our family’s pictures. We were able to stop and check out shops as we pleased along the way. He also accommodated lunch requests(as our daughter has food allergies).
One thing I wish we realized was that there is quite a bit of walking. We were fine but for people who are perhaps older or with young children you may want to consider taking a cab between different sites.

Andy Murao was an amazing and wonderful tour guide. He reached out to us with some ideas for our private tour. He worked with us as we made the tour perfectly suited to our needs. He met us on time. He navigated the crowds and the sites perfectly. He was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. He even put together a nice photo collection of photos he emailed us after. Highly recommend.
