Title: What's a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like for First-Time Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were a group from North America. They had visited Japan before, but this was their first time purely for sightseeing. After spending some time abroad, they stopped in Tokyo on their way home. After meeting them at their accommodation, I helped them plan how to spend their remaining time in Tokyo, including a visit to the Toyosu tuna auction the next day. Originally they had included the Tokyo National Museum in the itinerary to escape the cold, but since it would be even colder the following day, I suggested they visit the museum on their own another day, and we added Asakusa instead. At Kappabashi, they purchased three knives as souvenirs, and while their names were being engraved, we strolled through the kitchenware district. They wanted Pokémon goods as a Christmas present for their grandchild, so I took them to the Pokémon Center at Nihonbashi Takashimaya, where they were very excited and bought all kinds of goods. People everywhere are soft-hearted when it comes to their grandchildren. I was a little concerned about the temperature difference from where they had traveled, but they were both full of energy and walked a great deal.

Hello! My name is Hideki Maruyama. I was born in Osaka and raised in the Greater Tokyo area. I obtained my National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter Certificate in February 2016.
I spent 23 years working at a leading Japanese automotive company, including 7 years posted overseas. I then worked for a German premium automotive manufacturer for 13 years, followed by 6 years as an advisor to a British energy company. Through these roles at global corporations, I developed and refined key skills such as:
1. Cross-cultural communication
2. A deep understanding of business elites and affluent customers
3. The ability to deliver impactful and impressive presentations in English
In addition to my regular duties, I often served as an interpreter for top executives during meetings with foreign government officials. I also had opportunities to introduce aspects of Japan—such as our national character and consumer preferences—to leadership teams in both the German and British companies.
As a tour guide, I’ve had the pleasure of guiding guests from a wide range of countries especially after the pandemic, including the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Romania, Slovenia, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, India, Hong Kong, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Laos, Turkey, Jordan, Kenya and Israel.
When guiding, I always keep in mind to go beyond what guests can find on social media or ChatGPT. I believe my professional background allows me to offer unique insights, and I am encouraged when guests mention this in their reviews
