What Can You See on a Private Day Tour of Eastern Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were visitors from North America. During advance communication they had requested to skip Tsukiji, as they would be visiting it on a separate tour, and instead wished to explore the eastern part of central Tokyo. I met the group at their hotel (the interior of the hotel was somewhat dark and the entrance door was hard to find), confirmed the itinerary again, and started the tour. In light rain, we made a quick visit to the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace (I had explained in advance that the imperial residence itself cannot be seen, but the guests seemed to interpret this as secrecy, and were surprised to learn about certain rules of imperial succession) → Nezu Shrine (they took photos at the tunnel of red torii gates) → Sendagi and Yanaka (they purchased a set of chopsticks and chopstick rests at a bamboo crafts shop; the shop owner is also a craftsperson whose works have been provided to a major art museum in North America, which delighted the guests). Everything proceeded smoothly. Before Asakusa, I introduced a recommended shop on Kappabashi Kitchenware Street. We strolled and took photos within the grounds of Sensoji Temple, and I introduced recommended shops (souvenirs and sweets) along Nakamise-dori. Since the guests wanted a light meal, I had them try grilled wagyu rice balls on Denboin-dori. I introduced some recommended shops in Ginza, and we parted ways at the ticket gate of Asakusa Station.
