Title: What's a Private Day Tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were a young group visiting Japan from Europe. We met right on time at the lobby of the Hotel. Although I had heard their requests in advance, time was tight, so we discussed the itinerary in the lobby. We decided to start from Peace Park and walked there. Since they were interested in history, along the way I explained at Shirakami Shrine that the area of Hiroshima was originally mostly sea. As the Peace Memorial Museum can be visited without a guide, I suggested they come back the next day, and I guided them through Peace Park. If we had gone all the way to Hiroshima Castle, there would have been fewer options for lunch, so we had lunch around the Kamiyacho area. Since they had eaten udon the day before, they wanted soba, so I took them to a place that serves soba, but the menu did not seem to appeal to them. As we were heading to the food court at the bus center, a Korean restaurant caught their eye, so we ended up going there. After lunch, since they usually drink coffee, we stopped at another restaurant and had espresso. We discussed the afternoon plan at the restaurant and decided to skip Hiroshima Castle and Shukkeien Garden and go to Miyajima instead. They wanted to go to the summit of Mount Misen, but I explained that if we went all the way to the summit, we would have to descend on foot due to time constraints, it might get dark on the way, and we would not be able to see Itsukushima Shrine or Daisho-in Temple, so I asked them to choose one. In the end, they gave up on the summit and we went to Itsukushima Shrine and Daisho-in Temple. If sunset had been a little later we could have gone to the summit, but descending in the dark would have been a bit risky, so I was glad they chose Itsukushima Shrine and Daisho-in Temple. On the way back, we bought momiji manju at Omotesando and ate them as we headed to the ferry terminal. From the boat, we caught a beautiful sunset. Even though we could not go to the summit of Mount Misen, I was glad they said it was a good tour.
