Tour Itinerary in Detail
This private tour of Hokkaido began at 8:30, when the guide met the guests at Hotel meetup, and finished at 15:00. The day ran to 6 hours and 30 minutes from start to finish.
From there the group visited Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery at 9:20, Yoichi Winery vineyards at 10:30, Otaru Sankaku Market lunch at 11:15, Otaru Canal at 12:40, Sakaimachi Street shopping at 13:15 and It starts raining and we head to the hotel at 14:15.

What Is a Private Day Tour of Otaru and Yoichi in Hokkaido Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were a group of four visiting Japan from North America. It was their second time in Japan, but their first time in Hokkaido. On a previous trip they had come in summer and struggled with the heat, so this time they came in November. They were hoping to see the autumn foliage, so this season may be the best time to visit Hokkaido. The interior tour of the Nikka Whisky Distillery in Yoichi requires a reservation about one month in advance. Since we did not have a reservation, we visited the museum instead. The exhibits and photographs have English explanations, so just reading them gives a good understanding of the history of Nikka Whisky, although the whisky production process is largely omitted. We had lunch at the Sankaku Market in Otaru, but there were a great number of tourists and we waited about 15 minutes for our turn. Including me there were five of us, and since a table for that many was not opening up, I asked the restaurant to split us so that four guests and I could be seated separately, and we managed to secure seats. We went shopping from the Otaru Canal, but the weather turned bad and the guests said they wanted to return to the hotel early, so we moved up the schedule and returned to the hotel in Sapporo. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people. I myself enjoyed several sports, such as soccer, judo, and marathon when I was young. I’m much interested in baseball and sumo. Our guide Kazuo Sumi was excellent. We had a wonderful time, learned a lot of new things about Japanese culture and history, practiced navigating transport, enjoyed a perfect lunch. Kazuo-San even facilitated a purchase of a UV blocking umbrella, which was much needed on that sunny day.

We had a great tour with Kazuo, our guide. Days before arrival he communicated directly with me to set up the tour according to sites we wanted to see and he made good suggestions. Besides listening to his Kyoto detailed knowledge, we enjoyed the local walking of streets, taking buses and trains between sites. Kazuo has excellent English and has travelled himself so being with him for the day was a pleasure. I highly recommend using him as your guide

We had a wonderful experience during our Kyoto Customized Private Tour by Car with Licensed Guide. Our guide, Kazuo, was truly outstanding from start to finish.
