- 13:45 Stroll around Gion Shirakawa and Pontocho area
- 15:00 Disband@Nishikikoji
Title: What's a Private Walking Tour of Kyoto's Higashiyama Area Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were a group visiting from North America who had traveled through Tokyo, Oita, the Seto Inland Sea, and Osaka before arriving in Kyoto two days ago. Yesterday they toured Nara. To avoid the crowds at the most popular spots as much as possible, I proposed a Higashiyama route starting from Ginkaku-ji, and the guests agreed. It was unusually warm for November and the autumn leaves had not yet turned, but I believe the guests fully enjoyed the quintessential Kyoto atmosphere while avoiding the crowds. (I had initially considered visiting the Kyoto Imperial Palace, but since today was Tuesday, its regular closing day, I changed the plan to Gion and Nishiki when we set out in the morning.) As we head into the peak season for autumn foliage, this route seems likely to be one I will use many times.

Great walking tour in Kyoto!
Shoji was a great guide around Kyoto. Even in the rain we were able to visit the shrines/temples we wanted to see. We wished we had started earlier as we would have linke to have seen other things off the beaten path. We ended in Gion and were able to walk around the area. Shoji brought a wealth of knowledge about the area and Japanese culture.

In just six hours, he managed to give us an incredibly rich and insightful experience. We had such a wonderful tour of Nara with our tour guide Shoji. He was very knowledgeable and taught us so much about Japanese history. He was extremely flexible and helped us create the best tour for us. We wouldn’t have had near the positive experience or seen as many locations if we had tried to do the tour on our own. I recommend this tour and guide to anyone wanting to experience Nara.
