# What Can You See on a Private Kyoto Day Tour Beyond Temples? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were visitors from North America, and this was their first time in Japan and in Kyoto. Since the arrangements had only been made through a travel agency beforehand, I spoke with them directly for the first time when we met in person. The destinations for the day were changed significantly on the spot. Because they had already seen plenty of temples, shrines, and dry landscape gardens in Tokyo, they wanted to experience something different, which led to the destinations chosen this time. In particular, they were overwhelmed and deeply moved by the 1,001 statues of Kannon Bosatsu at Sanjusangendo, all of which are National Treasures. When I told them the legend that there is always one Buddha statue with a face closely resembling your own, and that if you can find it your wishes will come true and your fortune will open up, they found it very intriguing. Part of the group returned to the Hotel a little early due to feeling unwell. There were no expenses to be reimbursed.
