The guests were active senior visitors from Europe on their first trip to Japan. On this trip, they planned to spend three weeks touring Nikko, the Mount Fuji area, Kanazawa, Hida-Takayama, Kyoto, Osaka, and other destinations. Around Matsumoto Castle, they intended to rent a car and drive for several days. The itinerary they brought with them had a detailed schedule printed out. At Tokyo Station, I helped them with the ticketing process at the machines using QR codes. Having issued and received all the tickets they needed, they seemed reassured.

During the tour, many questions came up about Tokyo's housing situation and rents, as well as Japan's education system. As our conversation progressed, I learned that they had both studied economics and had long worked in fields related to insurance and auditing, which made sense given how they carefully converted prices and various figures from Japanese yen to euros on a calculator each time, nodding in understanding.

They savored a sushi lunch at Tsukiji, but wanted to keep lunch light in preparation for an evening food tour. The food tour was said to cover eight establishments in the Shinjuku area over three hours. Incidentally, at Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple, which we visited after the Tsukiji lunch, the guests seemed intrigued by a Buddhist temple that even has a pipe organ, comparing it with Catholic churches.

After visiting Meiji Shrine, we headed somewhat hurriedly toward Shinjuku Gyoen (where entry this time of year closes at 4:00). Despite arriving at ten minutes before four, the gate was closed, and looking at the sign, I realized that it was Monday, the regular closing day. Since this was my mistake, I offered to guide them somewhere else, but they warmly told me that they had already been able to see so many places and were fully satisfied. Since the meeting point for the food tour starting at 5:00 was around West Shinjuku, we strolled slowly from the Okido Gate of Shinjuku Gyoen while chatting, and I introduced them to the Godzilla Head in Kabukicho before we said goodbye.
