- AM 9:00 Hotel start
- Travel by TAXI
- Kanazawa Castle Park – Visit Hishi Yagura, Gojukken Nagaya, and Hashizumemon Tsuzuki Yagura
- Visit Kenrokuen Garden and Seisonkaku
- AM 11:00 Visit 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa Travel to Nagamachi (on foot)
- AM 11:50 Nagamachi – Stroll around the samurai residence district (Takada Family Residence, Ashigaru Museum)
- Shopping along the way (ceramics and lacquerware)
- AM 12:45 Travel by TAXI to Ishiya (LUNCH)
- Lunch
- PM 13:20 Stroll through Omicho Market, then travel to Higashi Chaya District on foot
- Stroll around Higashi Chaya District, and along the way visit Sakuda to observe the gold leaf manufacturing process
- PM 15:00 Travel on foot, tour ends at the hotel
What Is a Private Kanazawa Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kenrokuen, the Castle, and Local Food
I am sharing the information exactly as I passed it along to the guide in Tokyo when handing over the tour.
Today the tour finished, so I am sharing the following information.
The guests are on a trip that goes from Kyoto to Kanazawa, Hakone, and Tokyo. Since their interests included construction and the arts, they visited Kanazawa Castle, Kenrokuen Garden, the samurai district, and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art with great interest. They speak French, Arabic, and English (having lived in North America for many years), so communication is almost no problem at all.
As for meals, since a local travel agency had selected a particular kaiseki venue, I made a reservation at a suitable kaiseki restaurant in Kanazawa, but it seems they are not especially particular about it. On the other hand, one of the guests avoids shellfish and crab, and the other prefers lighter dishes. For lunch, a good udon or soba restaurant (a place that also offers tempura or some grilled items) might be appreciated. I think introducing a good ramen shop near the accommodation would also be well received. Also, although Kanazawa does not have a subway, they were interested in getting around by subway in Tokyo.
The guests were concerned about the situation back home due to the current circumstances there. Depending on the situation, they are also considering a stay in Europe after leaving Japan. That said, since they are enjoying their time in Japan, I think it is best not to bring it up too much. We happened to have a chance to talk slowly at lunch, so the conversation went there, but…
They also enjoyed shopping, purchasing a lot of Kutani ware, lacquerware, and other items in Kanazawa. They are a very easygoing group.

Incredible tour, one of the highlights of my trip!
Booking a private tour with Hideharu (Yoshi) Yoshino was easily one of the absolute highlights of my trip.
Yoshi-san customized the day perfectly to my interests, accommodating a last-minute hotel change and timing our morning perfectly so we could see the spectacular Gion Matsuri parade without the heavy crowds.
We explored Ginkaku-ji, Nanzen-ji, and the traditional streets of Gion at a wonderful, relaxed pace.
The tour was fascinating and packed with interesting details that allowed me to truly understand Kyoto’s rich history.

A Well-Organized and Informative Tour of Kanazawa
We, a family of 5, had a very enjoyable 6-hour private tour of Kanazawa with Hideharu Yoshino from Japan Guide Agency.
Communication before the tour was excellent and made it very easy to plan the day. Yoshi’s English was excellent, which made communication throughout the tour very smooth. He provided very clear and interesting explanations, giving us a better understanding of the history and culture of the places we visited.
During the tour we explored Kanazawa Castle, Kenrokuen Garden, and the Geisha and Samurai districts.
It was a well-organized and informative tour. Highly recommended.

Our tea and culture day in Kanazawa with our guide Hideharu Yoshino was amazing! Yoshi is very fluent in English and a great companion to walk around with as he knows so much about the history and culture of Kanazawa and Japan. He also knew the best place to grab lunch and helped us pick what was good local fish, curry or tea to try. Plus he made sure we felt comfortable and never out of place wherever we went. I would recommend him for anyone who likes to know more about what they are seeing or what they can do in the area. Yoshi is great!
