What Is a Private Hiroshima Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Hiroshima Castle and the Peace Memorial Park

Meeting Both the guest and I arrived at the meeting point early, so we were able to start the tour with plenty of time to spare. The guest requested a light lunch, saying they had been eating too much recently and their stomach felt heavy, so I looked into some options while we were traveling by bus.

Hiroshima Castle The guest said they really liked how spacious the exhibits inside the castle keep were. They were interested in many things about Japan, such as why there are so few trash cans in the country, so we chatted about topics like that while sightseeing. When they spotted someone mowing the lawn from inside the castle, they were surprised at how much more neatly and carefully the grass was cut compared to North America, and it was lovely to see them enthusiastically taking photos from the stone-dropping openings.

Peace Memorial Park Since it was drizzling, we went inside buildings from time to time as we made our way around. We happened to arrive just as school excursion students were delivering paper cranes to the Children's Peace Monument, and the guest watched attentively. They were able to see for themselves that the Flame of Peace stays lit even in the rain, there were fewer tourists than usual so we could take our time, and the temperature was pleasant, so I think they were able to appreciate the good side of the Peace Memorial Park on a rainy day.

Reflections During the tour, the guest shared many things with me, such as the differences between North America and Japan, the impressive aspects of Japan, and recommended tourist spots in North America. Their eyes sparkled as they said again how amazing Japan is, and it was wonderful to see them so moved. Thanks to such a lovely guest, the walk from Hiroshima Castle to the Atomic Bomb Dome felt like it passed in an instant. At this time of year, many school excursion students come to visit the Peace Memorial Park, so I was glad I had purchased advance tickets for the Peace Memorial Museum beforehand. I felt I should prepare several options for lunch, both for when guests want something light and when they don't. I will keep this in mind from next time. Once again, I was happy to be able to show a wonderful guest around Hiroshima. Thank you so much!!
