- 9:36 Meet at Tobu Nikko Station ➡ 9:45～10:00 Move to Shinkyo by bus, then sightseeing at Shinkyo ➡ 10:05～11:00 Walk to Rinnoji Sanbutsudo, then sightseeing (including Sorinto and Gomado) ➡ 11:00～12:30 Sightseeing at Toshogu ➡ 12:30～13:20 Lunch @ Sanraku (west approach entrance) ➡ 13:20～14:10 Walk to Rinnoji Taiyuin, then sightseeing (including Jogyodo and Hokkedo)➡ 14:10～14:30 Sightseeing at Futarasan Shrine ➡ Walk to the west approach entrance bus stop ➡ 14:39 Board the bus bound for Yumoto Onsen ➡ 15:10 Arrive at Chuzenji Onsen ➡ 15:10～15:50 Walk to Kegon Falls, then sightseeing ➡ 15:50～16:30 Walk to the Hotel, then check in (check in first to leave luggage in the room)➡ 16:30～17:00 Stroll along the shore of Lake Chuzenji, then end of guide ➡ 17:00～17:40 Move from Chuzenji Onsen to Tobu Nikko Station by bus ➡ Return home
What Is a Private Nikko Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on History, Culture, and Nature
The guests were visiting Japan on a trip. Because I had lived overseas in North America for over 16 years, we found many topics to talk about and the conversation flowed easily. We also shared thoughts on the difficulties of living abroad, and the guests spoke of their own experiences of living in North America while having roots in Asia, so we resonated with each other on many levels and I found myself in an environment where I could guide with great ease. I am truly grateful for that. The guests were interested in history and in religion, customs, and the various behaviors rooted in Japanese values and the reasons behind them. They asked not only about facts but also for my own thoughts as a guide, which made for a challenging yet fulfilling time. They mentioned an interest in nature as well, and planned to explore the Oku-Nikko area by rental bicycle the next day. However, since the weather was expected to turn, I suggested several ways to spend time indoors. For example, I introduced the former British and Italian embassy villas, the footbath at Yumoto Onsen, a restaurant serving delicious himemasu trout dishes, and a shop offering fine examples of Nikko-bori woodcarving and Mashiko-yaki pottery.

When I was a company employee, I lived abroad for 5 years in Los Angeles, 11 and a half years in Washington D.C. and 2 and half years in Brussels. Despite 19 year long stay abroad, I remain charmed by Japanese things, such as culture, custom, spirit, martial art etc. I am glad if I can be of help you understand Japan as well as Nikko through my guide. I am interested in Japanese martial arts: I own the third grade in Japanese archery, known as Kyudo and I have passed a certification examination (1st grade) for Sumo wrestling conducted by the Japanese Sumo Promoting Association.

Ichiro was an awesome tour guide and made our trip to Nikko a super memorable one! He was extremely knowledge in the history of the city and was amazing. We were also late coming from Tokyo due to losing our suica card and ichiro accommodated us immensely. Highly recommended and an amazing person to have as your guide!

Our day in Nikko with Ichi was truly the highlight of our trip to Japan. He was absolutely amazing from start to finish ? friendly, knowledgeable, kind, and a real pleasure to spend the day with. He made the whole experience so special and memorable, sharing fascinating insights and helping us appreciate Nikko even more. We also had a great lunch together and a lovely coffee in the afternoon, which made the day feel even more personal and enjoyable. Thanks to Ichi, this was not just a tour, but one of the most beautiful memories of our trip. We couldn’t recommend him more highly.
