- ⑨ 16:00 Dismissal (in front of Nanzen-ji Temple)
What Is a Private Day Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. After spending a few days in Tokyo, they came to Kyoto. Early in the morning at the Hotel, I gave a brief talk about the history of the ancient capital of Kyoto. They found the coexistence of Shinto and Buddhism quite fascinating, and from early in the day they asked many detailed questions about the religious views of Japanese people and about daily life in Japan seen from a religious perspective, so I spoke at length in response to their questions. They also asked what kaiseki cuisine and the ichiju-sansai (one soup, three dishes) style of meal actually are, and although I was surprised to be asked so much so early in the day, I explained these topics in great detail. In any case, they showed great interest in a wide range of subjects such as Japanese religion, food, history, and folklore, and I was peppered with questions throughout the day. It was a meaningful day, and I too did plenty of talking. No expenses were advanced.

Our guide in Kyoto was Kazu. By the end of the day, we felt like we had made a new friend.
Kazu helped us arrange the best day with our short time in Kyoto. He brought us to some “hidden gems” and gave us thorough explanations on history and culture.

Our tour guide Kazu was very knowledgeable in terms of the history and explaining many of
the wonderful ancient sites around Kyoto. Definitely a must! Otherwise, I think it would be
difficult to tourists to understand on their own.
