Title: What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nanzenji, the Philosopher's Path, and Fushimi Inari
Following a request to change the hotel and to move the start time one hour earlier (from 9:30 to 8:30), we obtained the driver's agreement and began the tour one hour earlier as requested. Although it was hot, I believe the tour was carried out without any particular problems or complaints.
For lunch, I suggested Western food, a Japanese-Western buffet, and okonomiyaki, and the guests chose okonomiyaki, which they had never tried before, and enjoyed a variety of okonomiyaki. They ate a great deal of all of them (Osaka-style, Hiroshima-style, and modan-yaki), and tonpei-yaki and omu-yakisoba were also well received.
One of the guests mentioned wanting to become a psychiatrist in the future, so I thought the explanation I gave at Nanzenji about how Zen is applied to psychological treatment might be helpful, and I carefully explained the benefits of Zen.
Also, thinking that the walk along the Philosopher's Path might be a little boring for the younger members of the group, I held a simple quiz about Japan while we walked, and it became quite lively. I believe it turned out to be a memorable trip for the guests as well.

Our Kyoto guided tour (Aioi Michiharu) was a great way to see some of the city’s most famous sights. The itinerary was well organized, starting with a convenient hotel pickup before visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha. Walking through the thousands of red torii gates was a memorable experience, and our guide shared interesting background about the shrine that added helpful context.
We then explored the Kiyomizu area, including Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Yasaka Pagoda, and Yasaka Koshindo Temple. The route offered a nice mix of historic landmarks, traditional streets, and scenic viewpoints. There was enough time at each stop to take photos and enjoy the surroundings without feeling rushed.
What really made this tour special was our guide’s knowledge, friendliness, and enthusiasm. He provided interesting cultural insights, recommended local foods and hidden photo spots, and made sure everyone in the group was comfortable throughout the day.

Michi was an excellent tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about the history of all the sites we visited, was able to answer all of core questions, and knew where to find cold water when we were all thirsty! We really enjoyed our whole 4 hour tour.
