Can You Do a Private Day Trip to Mount Fuji from Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report

This was my first time guiding a Mount Fuji tour, arranged through [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/). I conducted two preliminary site visits in advance, and I had expected that a tour departing from Tokyo would likely only allow us to visit two spots. In the end, even with just two spots, we still ran significantly over the planned time. A tour departing from Kawaguchiko Station might make it possible to visit three locations.

It was a day with thick clouds covering the sky, though no rain fell. Hoping to give the guests at least some chance of seeing Mount Fuji, I guided them to the Mount Fuji 5th Station and Arakurayama Sengen Park. As it turned out, Mount Fuji was not visible at all, but the guests still seemed to enjoy the day well enough. In particular, Arakurayama offers a great view even when Mount Fuji cannot be seen, and the Chureito Pagoda (a five-story pagoda) has its own appeal, so I felt it is a must-see spot in this area.

On the way there, I stopped by the Busta bus terminal to see if we could catch a bus from Shinjuku Station, but there were no available seats at all, so we took a JR limited express train and transferred to a Fujikyuko local train. The transportation cost is calculated after deducting the reserved-seat fare for the limited express.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
