Title: What's a Private One-Day Osaka Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Osaka Castle, Shitennoji, and Dotonbori

I guided a group of guests from Asia. I met them at their hotel on time, explained the day's itinerary, and started with a tour of Osaka Castle. We entered through the Otemon Gate and moved toward the main keep while I explained the stone walls and the Sengoku-era history in front of the Hokoku Shrine dedicated to Hideyoshi. We took a commemorative photo in front of the garden, and I spent a good amount of time guiding them through the museum in the main keep. Once again, this place was overflowing with international visitors. The elevator was out of order, so making our way up to the observation deck by stairs was quite an effort.

From Osaka Castle we took the subway to Shitennoji, where I guided the guests through this temple that shows the syncretism of Buddhism and Shinto. Since the guests came from a region that is the birthplace of Buddhism, there was no need to explain the teachings of the Buddha, so I focused instead on explaining Japanese Buddhism.

From Shitennoji we moved to Dotonbori in Namba, where we had ramen for lunch, and from there we headed to the Kuromon Market while taking in the shopping arcade along Sennichimae Street. After a brief tour of the market, we parted ways at the guests' request on the way back to Dotonbori. The guests said that they wanted to enjoy some drinks that evening, so they planned to stroll slowly around the Dotonbori area and find a bar on their own.

After a rather long teaching experience at Japanese college, I converted my career about 6 years ago into working as a tour guide for the tourists visiting Japan.
As my career overseas, I’ve been in the UN and the Japanese Embassy, all in the USA, totaling more than 6 years.
And then I had made a big change in my career from a diplomat to an academic researcher. For that career to achieve, I studied abroad and won a doctorate degree in linguistics from Indiana University and landed a teaching position at college in Japan.
With all these interesting and exciting experiences I’ve made myself ready to enrich your tour and make it both enjoyable and worthwhile.
