What Does a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Cover? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Tsukiji, and Asakusa

The guests this time were a group of four from Europe, and some of them did not seem very comfortable with English. One member of the group was fluent in English and kindly interpreted my explanations as needed for the rest of the group.

The spots they had mentioned in advance by email were Tokyo Skytree, Akihabara, Meiji Shrine, and Asakusa. However, since they told me they had already visited Skytree and Akihabara the day before, I added Tsukiji to the itinerary instead. I had thought we might end up with some extra time, but because we also strolled through the inner garden at Meiji Shrine, we were able to finish the tour almost exactly on schedule.

This was the first time I had visited the inner garden of Meiji Shrine during a regular tour. It happened to be the season when the iris flowers were just beginning to bloom, so the timing for a walk was excellent. The sushi restaurant we chose for lunch in Tsukiji was also generally well received.

After finishing the tour of Asakusa, we concluded the day and parted ways at Ueno-hirokoji Station on the way back.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.
