Tour Itinerary
- 10:30 Meet at Kamakura Station
- 10:40-11:00. Bus to Hokokuji Temple
- 11:00-11:30 Visit Hokokuji Temple
- 11:30-12:00. Bus to Hachimangu Shrine
- 12:00-12:40. Visit Kamakura Hachimangu Shrine
- 12:40-13:00 Walk to Kenchoji Temple
- 13:00-13:40. Visit Kenchoji Temple
- 13:40-14:00 Walk from Kenchoji Temple to Kita-Kamakura Station. Return to Kamakura Station by train
- 14:00-14:50. Lunch at Kamakura Komachi Street
- 15:10-16:10 Move to Hase Station, then visit Kotokuin Temple and Hasedera Temple
- 16:10-16:30. Move from Hase Station to Inamuragasaki Station, walk along the coastline, then disband
What Is a Private Bus Day Tour of Kamakura Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were a group visiting from North America. Because the previous day had brought typhoon rain and the paths were often muddy, I arranged an itinerary using the bus. Their requests were Hokokuji Temple (west of Kamakura) and Kenchoji Temple (north of Kamakura), so we connected the route from west to north, crossing by Hachimangu Shrine. Since Kenchoji Temple was chosen at the request of one of the guests, after visiting they bought a souvenir. One of the guests seemed to enjoy the garden at Kenchoji Temple. Around Kita-Kamakura, the group became hungry, but since we could not find a suitable place for lunch, considering the afternoon itinerary, we returned to Kamakura Station for the meal. After eating, we visited the Great Buddha (they went inside it) and Hasedera Temple. At Hasedera Temple the hydrangeas were not yet in bloom, but they strolled through the path-like garden afterward and were delighted, saying "it was very beautiful." At Hasedera Temple they enjoyed the view of the sea, so I took them to Inamuragasaki before we parted ways.

Our guide, Kappa-san, modified the typical Hakone tour to accommodate our interests, and is very helpful and knowledgeable. Since the day was very hot (95°F / 35°C) we favored activities that were more shaded or cool, including a walk on a cedar-lined section of the old Tokaido path.

Kappa, our guide met us at the train station and took us all over Kamakura. We saw shrines, the big Buddha, gardens, and the Oceanside! Kappa shared a lot of history about Kamakura, and it was nice to have this background when we were exploring these incredible sites! Highly recommend!

My wife and I were treated to a wonderful walking tour of Tokyo with Kappa. Kappa was very accommodating in designing a tour specifically tailored to our interests. Kappa is a wealth of knowledge regarding the city history, temples and shrine, and Japanese art history. She is a lovely person too. I highly recommend Kappa if you want to learn about Tokyo
