What's a Private Kyoto Culture and Shopping Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were visitors from North America, and it was a first visit to Japan for part of the group. The guests showed strong intellectual curiosity, asking engaging questions about the historical events of the places we visited, cultural concepts such as wabi-sabi, and the food, then comparing these with their own background and asking further questions — which kept me very busy but was truly rewarding. There were also many sensitive questions from a geopolitical perspective concerning current affairs, and while I was careful in my responses, we were able to exchange views. The guests also devoted time to shopping, and gave the impression of having studied well in advance about paintings, embroidery, incense, knives, and more.

Our tour guide Kazu was very knowledgeable in terms of the history and explaining many of
the wonderful ancient sites around Kyoto. Definitely a must! Otherwise, I think it would be
difficult to tourists to understand on their own.
