What Is a Private Family Day Tour of Nara Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. The group was very open, close-knit, and cheerful. I served as a last-minute replacement for the previous guide, but there were no problems at all. In the morning the weather changed dramatically, and just before entering the Great Buddha Hall of Todai-ji, a sudden squall-like heavy rain fell, so like the other visitors, we waited for a while before going to see the Great Buddha. After the Great Buddha Hall, it started raining again when we arrived at Nigatsu-do, but this rain did not last long. Since everyone was energetic, we walked directly from Nigatsu-do to Kasuga Taisha. It took about 13 minutes, but since the main hall of Kasuga Taisha is not easily accessible by bus, walking was helpful. After lunch, we visited Yoshikien Garden and Naramachi, then saw the guests off at JR Nara Station to end the tour. The photo was taken at the Naramachi Nigiwai-no-ie. The children took part in an origami workshop, and the photo shows them making samurai helmets.
